SUBJECT: Reflection on Technical Description of “The Classic Bic Lighter”

Throughout writing my technical description I struggled in connecting to the audience and strengthened on writing objectively. 

When writing the technical description I did not know how to write the piece with the subtle persuasion that needed to be included. That impacted the way that I was connecting to the audience. I was not sure if the audience was going to be persuaded by the way I introduced and described my product. 

In order to do this I had to make sure that I elected the correct form of stance in my writing. The stance that I chose was critical. This had to do with the fact that I was technically describing my product. I did not want to make the final piece sound like an advertisement. 

In addition, the analysis of the genre is also important. This piece had to be informational so the product can be explained thoroughly. To fix this I needed to add more background of my innovation. For instance, I was vague when mentioning the years and the progress of the lighter. Also I was missing dimensions which I had to physically find out. 

Choosing the correct medium and genre was key to connecting to the audience. The medium that I had chosen was that of an informational book. However, I did not include pictures that supported my information on the product in the draft. As a result the audience was not going to completely understand what I was talking about.

Writing objectively was improved throughout this assignment since I only used personal pronouns once. The rest of my writing was solely focused on making sure I clearly described the purpose and background of my product. 

In future assignments I will have to take greater consideration in the stance of my writing along with the genre and medium. These will enable me to create a good connection to the audience. I will do that by making sure that I write formally which can depend on assignment. I will also make sure that I include all parts of the task when writing anything else. Analyzing how I am going to present my information will help structure the overall assignment. As an engineer taking great consideration to these strategies, analyzing the medium and genre in order to take a stance is helpful. It will make sure that I am always writing on task and get my point such as with an engineering proposal.
